Group Guitar Class (Kids, Teens & Adults)

WCMS’s Intro to Guitar classes teach you how to play guitar in a fun, relaxed group setting. Our experienced, patient, and caring guitar staff will have you making music in no time!

Sections Offered:

ages 6-9

Intro to Guitar

Join our beginning guitar class for kids and get hooked on guitar! Young students will learn on 1/2-size acoustic guitars – they’ll be learning simple chords and songs in no time. Level 2 explores more advanced chord fingerings and a broader repertoire of material. As students advance, they can transition at any time to private lessons.

Students must have a guitar for the class – and for practicing! We recommend purchasing a guitar, since buying a beginner-level instrument is nearly the same cost as renting. These are quality instruments at 1/2 scale that are a good investment and can be used for years. We recommend purchasing from Johnson String Instrument, and WCMS students receive a 10% discount on a guitar for this class.

For students who are 6–9 years old as of 9/1/2024. Maximum of 6 students per class.

Teens & Adults

Intro to Guitar

This is an ideal class for teens and adults who have always wanted to try out guitar lessons or need a refresher from past lessons. After eight weeks, students will have:

  • An ability to name the parts of the guitar and their function
  • A greater sense of proper technique
  • Ability to tune
  • A few strumming patterns
  • Open position chords: C, A, G, E, D, A minor, E minor, etc…
  • Greater sense of how to read chord charts and other forms of notation
  • Ability to play a few tunes
  • Increased knowledge of the guitar’s history and cultural impact
  • A desire to learn more!

Yamaha acoustic guitars are available for all participants who don’t own a guitar (you’ll be asked on the registration form whether you need to borrow one).  Please email the school if you need to sign out a guitar. Maximum of 6 students per class.
